Nagorik ← Back to the board

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 10 September 2026

Nagorik is built to need as little personal information as possible — reports are anonymous by default, and no account is required to use the board. This page explains exactly what we do collect, why, and the choices you have.

1. Information we collect

Information you provide directly

Instant reports. When you post to the board, we collect the category you choose, the location you describe, your written description, and — only if you choose to enter it — a name. Leaving the name field blank posts your report as "Anonymous." The submission form explicitly asks you not to name or identify any specific person in your description, and every report is reviewed by a moderator before it becomes visible to anyone else.

Contact form messages. If you write to us, we collect your name, email address, the reason you selected, and your message. This is used only to respond to you and is never shown on the public board.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, Nagorik uses Google Analytics and Google AdSense, both of which automatically collect some technical information when you visit — such as your approximate location (derived from IP address, not GPS), browser and device type, pages viewed, and how you arrived at the site. We don't control exactly what these Google services collect; see Third-party services below.

What we deliberately don't collect

  • No account or sign-up is required to browse the board or submit a report — only the site's moderator has a login.
  • We don't request your phone number, precise device location, or any government ID.
  • We don't require your real name for a report — anonymous submissions are fully supported by design.

2. How we use it

  • Reports are used solely to display them on the public board once a moderator approves them, and to maintain the review queue in the meantime. Reports that are discarded during moderation are deleted, not published anywhere.
  • Contact messages are used only to read and respond to your enquiry.
  • Analytics data helps us understand how many people visit, which pages are useful, and where to improve the site.
  • Advertising — Google AdSense uses data collected via cookies to serve ads, which may include ads personalized based on your visits to this and other websites. See Your choices for how to opt out of personalization.

3. Cookies and similar technologies

Nagorik itself sets no tracking cookies directly. Two categories of cookies may be set by the services we use:

  • Google Analytics sets cookies (such as _ga) to distinguish visitors and measure site usage.
  • Google AdSense sets advertising cookies to serve and measure ads, and — where permitted by your region's rules — to personalize ads based on your browsing.

Separately, the site stores your language preference in your browser's local storage so it remembers your choice on your next visit. This stays on your device — it is never sent to us or to any third party.

You can control or opt out of personalized advertising through Google's Ad Settings or aboutads.info, and most browsers let you block or delete cookies entirely in their settings.

4. Third-party services we use

Nagorik is built on a small number of external services, each with its own privacy policy governing how it handles data:

5. How long we keep information

  • Pending reports are kept until a moderator reviews them. Approved reports move to the public board; discarded ones are deleted.
  • Published reports are kept indefinitely, since the board is intended as a running public record — the same reason a physical notice board keeps its pinned notices up. You can request removal at any time (see Your choices).
  • Contact messages are kept only as long as needed to respond to your enquiry and are not published anywhere.

6. Your choices

  • Requesting removal of a report. Since most reports are anonymous, we can't verify who submitted a given report — but if something you posted, or something about you, needs to come down, contact us with enough detail to identify the specific entry (category, location, and rough date it was posted) and we'll review and remove it.
  • Opting out of personalized ads. Use Google's Ad Settings to control ad personalization across Google's network.
  • Blocking analytics or cookies generally. Most browsers let you block third-party cookies in their privacy settings, and browser extensions exist specifically to opt out of Google Analytics tracking.

7. Children's privacy

Nagorik is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will remove it.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time as the site changes. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. We encourage checking back periodically if you have concerns about how your information is handled.

9. Contact

Questions about this policy, or a request to remove something you posted, can be sent through the contact form on the main site.
